Weldon House Community Recycling
Through NCADD licensing and status as a local Phoenix
501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, much of the funding for the moms is
provided for by the State of Arizona through Magellan Health Services and
the United Way. But no assistance is provided for the children and many of
their day-to-day living expenses.
We needed an alternative source of steady income, not
only to sustain the program but to provide for the children and enhance
overall living conditions. In March 2007 Sally Lara, CEO of NCADD Phoenix,
and Bob Goodwill of American Textile Recycling Services of Arizona
(ATRS-AZ), met and worked out a mutually agreeable neighborhood recycling
program.
We were happy and optimistic at the prospect of
sustainable supplementary income for our program. ATRS-AZ agreed to provide
all the necessary infrastructure required: The familiar orange donation
boxes, labor, trucks, supplies, management, warehousing & the expertise to
convert public donations of clothing, shoes and miscellaneous household
articles into much needed cash.
Weldon House administrators work together with ATRS-AZ,
giving them a monthly list of needed items which are collected directly from
the donation boxes and delivered to the Weldon House. The scope of items
ranges from clothing to pots and pans, silverware, linens, towels, toys,
cookbooks, vacuum cleaners, furniture and everything in-between. It
constantly changes.
The additional cash generated provides assistance in
many areas, from paying utility bills and facility maintenance, to day care
and after school programs for the children, clothing, GED and career
development expenses, YMCA group membership, furniture, dental expenses, and
the list goes on...
We are pleased to tell you that the recycling program
through your support has provided all that we've dreamed of and more. We at
NCADD, and all the moms and children at Weldon House, extend our deepest
gratitude and sincere thanks for your kindness and generous donations. For
all those responsible for allowing access to your property for donation box
sites, we could not have done this program without you.
In addition to helping the program at Weldon House with
your donation, you are helping the environment, as well, by recycling items
that might otherwise end up in landfills, saving energy and raw materials in
the process.
If you would like to sponsor a donation box site, there is absolutely no
cost to you. Please contact ATRS-AZ at
1-866-900-9308 and they will be happy to meet and work out the details with
you. You may also contact Mike Holt or Don McGee. by email.
