Men’s Outpatient Program

The Men’s Intensive Outpatient Program consists of three phases. The first two phases of the program are approximately three months for each phase. The third phase is continuing care and lasts three to six months. The program is very individualized; the length of each phase is determined by the needs of the client.

Level I meets for group three evenings per week, the focus of the groups is on chemical dependency education and relapse prevention. This is done through a Bio-Psycho-Social emphasis on the disease of addiction. A multimodal approach is utilized as articulated through a Humanistic approach that promotes self acceptance and ultimately self-esteem, a Cognitive Behavioral paradigm utilizing Terrance Gorski’s model of addictive disease which delineates how to identify, reduce and manage personal triggers that precipitate relapse to drug/alcohol use, and Albert Ellis’ Cognitive Distortions that aims at reducing and reframing thinking patterns.

Level II meets for group two evenings per week, consists of trigger management as it relates to the life issues that the client encounters on a day-to-day basis that have historically sabotaged the client’s attempts at recovery from mood-altering chemicals. Also addressed in this phase is the resolution of past issues that prevent the client from moving forward in life. Additionally, relapse prevention is emphasized.
Pyscho-educational lectures, videos and homework are used through out the two phases to support the internalization of treatment concepts.

Level III lasts between three to six months depending on clinical necessity and is one evening a week, in this phase, continuing care is stressed through continued relapse prevention, strengthening a recovery program with social support system.
